The amazing Julia Daoud of Simply Jules interviewed me for College Fashionista. Make sure to check out the full interview and more pictures of what I wore on CF

CF: How is your blog different from the billion other blogs out there?
AB: I think my blog has a clear point of view. I’m not just posting pictures of what I wear. I’m showing girls that fashion should be fun, and that it’s important to look great but that you should do so in a classy, sophisticated way.

(Almost) Good for You Sugar-Free Brownies

12 April 2015 ·

I modified a brownie recipe from Food.com to have healthier ingredients.  It’s really difficult to find pre-made desserts that aren’t loaded with sugar and vegetable oil, so I often wind up making my own.

These brownies are made of all natural and organic ingredients, and are (almost) sugar-free.  These are so healthy, they’re almost good for you.

They taste pretty good too. Not amazing, but pretty darn good considering how healthy they are. This is a dessert you can indulge in, (almost) guilt free.

You may need to go to Whole Foods or another health food store to find some of the ingredients.

Ingredients:

1/2 cup organic coconut oil
1 cup Stevia
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 large organic eggs (or egg whites)
1/4 teaspoon baking powder
1/3 cup carob powder (can be found at Whole Foods)
1/2 cup organic whole wheat flour
Carob chips to sprinkle on top

Directions:

  1. Preheat oven to 350.
  2. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl, except the carob chips.
  3. Pour the mixture into a greased 9 x 9 square pan.
  4. Sprinkle desired amount of carob chips on top.
  5. Bake for 20 minutes.
  6. Let cool before cutting, then enjoy!

Spring Beauty - A Few of My Favorite Things

11 April 2015 ·

Thanks to the generosity of Too Faced and Jessica Simpson, I have found a few new favorite beauty products.

Too Faced Bulletproof 24 hour eyeliner: This is the easiest to apply eyeliner I have ever used. With this liner, anyone can draw a straight, even line. There is a smudger on one end to create a smoky effect.

Too Faced Shadow Insurance in Champagne: I am a long time fan of Too Faced shadow insurance. The champagne color is a nice shimmery base for eye shadow. If you’re looking for a long-lasting eye shadow primer, try this one out.

Too Faced Kabuki Brush: This luxurious brush is made of “teddy bear hair” and is perfect for applying blush or bronzer.

Jessica Simpson Signature Perfume: This has a fresh, floral scent that is feminine and very light.

What I Wore at Teen Vogue Fashion U Day 1

These photos were taken before the Express kick-off party by my talented new friend, Amanda Lin! I wanted to wear this tuxedo detail romper from Topshop, so I layered a long-sleeve underneath to make it appropriate for NYC weather.  On my shoulder is Rebecca Minkoff’s version of the bucket bag - one of my favorite new trends this season.

And, big surprise, I finished the look with my trustee over-the-knee boots. Fun fact: I also wore them last year at TVFU. These boots are sexy in a classy, cool-girl way. That rare balance gives them lasting power. But, a word of caution, this trend requires a bit of splurging. Since there is so much boot going on, faux leather versions can end up looking very cheap. Shoes can make or break an outfit, so they should be where you splurge.

This past weekend I had the privilege of attending Teen Vogue Fashion University in NYC. For those not familiar with the program, FashionU is a three day event where the business of fashion is taught by renowned editors, designers, bloggers, and more. This was my fourth time attending FashionU and this year was by far, my favorite FashionU yet.

Classes were held at Teen Vogue’s new headquarters at The New World Trade Center. The building is the tallest in New York, with better views than the Empire State Building. Keep reading as I walk you through the highlights of my weekend and some things I learned from the speakers.

Refresh VoxBox

It’s time for another Influenster VoxBox review! Read on to learn about all the cool new products I got to test for free.  Interested in joining Influenster? Sign up for the opportunity to sample products and share your influence here

These Beanitos chips are surprisingly healthy for how great they taste.  They have a short list of natural ingredients and a few grams of protein.  I liked them so much that I used a coupon from Influenster to buy more.

This Skinnygirl bar was a satisfying snack and is somewhat healthy, despite being processed.

I love this L’Occitane cream. It’s very lightweight and doesn’t feel greasy at all. It also has a nice, subtle scent.

This CoverGirl foundation is just about perfect for my skin tone. I prefer to use it without the applicator. Shop the foundation here

This seaweed mask left my skin feeling smooth and refreshed.  And, at just $2 a mask, I definitely recommend trying one out.  They come in other delectable-sounding flavors like green tea and coconut. Find them here

These DenTek flossers are great for travel.  Put a few in your purse in case of spinach-in-your-teeth emergencies.

These Listerine strips are probably my favorite item in the VoxBox.  I hate gum because I think spitting it out is very un-ladylike.  These strips freshen my breath just as well as gum or mints and they barely take up any room in my purse.

My Favorite Looks from NYFW Fall ‘15

21 February 2015 ·

1. J. Crew - I love the effortless pairing of contrasting colors and materials.

2. Elizabeth and James - I love that the accessories took center stage at this show. The update on their signature backpack is to die for.

3. Alice and Olivia - I like that this collection feels like a period piece, yet is still young and hip. Plus, my regular readers know that I’m a sucker for great over-the-knee boots.

4. Tommy Hilfiger - This collection, which took place on a football field, was no doubt a crowd favorite. I’m always a fan of sophisticated, athletic-inspired looks.

5. Proenza Schouler - Only PS could make fishnet look insanely chic.

6. BCBG Max Azria - I love all the little details in these looks. Oh yeah, and more over-the-knee boots. I think they’re here to stay!

Did one of these looks make it into your favorites?
